Thyroid Disorders

Low thyroid levels can lead to weight gain and difficulty losing weight, fatigue, fluid retention, brain fog, dry skin, hair thinning and joint pains.

High thyroid levels can lead to weight loss, fast pulse rate and anxiety.

Dr Salmond has a special interest in borderline low thyroid issues where the levels may be within normal but at the low end and the patient is complaining of symptoms.

Investigations will be done to ascertain the underlying cause of abnormal or borderline thyroid function. Management will be aimed at treating the underlying cause of the thyroid dysfunction.

This can include low iodine and other minerals, toxicity and imbalance of other hormones.
