​How Does Excel V Work?

The technology behind Excel V is remarkably precise:

  • For Pigmentation: The laser delivers pulses of light that are naturally absorbed by the skin's pigment. This causes the pigmented cells to disperse and either flake away or blend seamlessly with the surrounding skin, leaving healthy tissue unharmed.

  • For Vascular Conditions: The laser energy works to coagulate and collapse the targeted veins and capillaries, effectively dispersing redness and improving the appearance of vascular lesions.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

An Excel V treatment is typically swift, often taking less than half an hour. Most patients find the procedure comfortable enough that a topical anaesthetic isn't usually required. You'll simply feel a sensation of warmth as the handpiece moves over the treatment area, along with a possible slight stinging as the light pulses enter the skin. Afterwards, your skin will be cleansed, cooled with ice packs, and protected with sunscreen.

What is the Recovery Time?

Recovery from Excel V is generally straightforward. You might experience redness at the treatment sites for approximately 24 hours, and some swelling could occur for 1-2 days, which can be managed with ice packs.

Other temporary effects may include:

  • A "bug bite", welt, or hive-like appearance, which typically resolves within 1-3 days.

  • Bruising may occur but will fade over time.

  • Treated pigment will usually darken (turn brown to black) within 24-48 hours. It is crucial not to pick at these areas. On the face, treated pigment will exfoliate off in about 1 week, while on the body, it may take 2-3 weeks.

Important Post-Treatment Care:

  • For 48 hours, avoid heat from activities such as exercise, hot tubs/saunas, and direct sun exposure.

  • Avoid skin irritants like skincare products containing Vitamin C, tretinoin, retinol, glycolic/salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, or astringents until redness and swelling have cleared.

  • Cleanse treated areas with a gentle cleanser and use a gentle moisturiser until redness/swelling subsides.

  • Continue to apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily and limit excessive sun exposure to prevent further sun damage.

  • Makeup can be worn unless crusting develops.
